Charlotte Bauer was born in the UK and moved to South Africa with her family as a teenager, where she completed almost a year of college before finding her calling as a journalist. She has worked variously as a profile writer, columnist and editor at the South African Sunday Times and counts interviewing Nelson Mandela by mistake as a career highlight. She is a founding member of the Mail & Guardian newspaper, and a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University. She lives between Johannesburg and France, quite often with her husband.
Her first book, HOW TO GET OVER BEING YOUNG (Atlantic) was published in August 2021.
