Originally from California, Claire Ptak trained as a pastry chef and spent years working at Alice Waters’ famous Chez Panisse in Berkeley. She relocated to London and set up Violet, a bakery specialising in American-style cupcakes and whoopie pies. The Violet stall on Broadway market on a Saturday boasts Keira Knightley, Jamie Oliver and Stella McCartney among its loyal customers.
Claire is also a writer and food stylist. THE WHOOPIE PIE BOOK was published in 2010 by Random House, and she is the food stylist for Ottolenghi and Dan Lepard’s weekly Guardian recipe columns. Claire’s work has also featured in Jamie magazine and Observer Food Monthly. Claire is available for speaking engagements, demonstrations and masterclasses.
