Kat Hill

Kat is an academic, writer and researcher interested in questions of culture, community, place and environment. She is a Senior Lecturer in History at Birkbeck College in London but lives in Somerset. Her work on diverse topics from material culture to religious communities has appeared in various journals and books, and she has been awarded several fellowships and grants.

She is currently working on a book called SIMPLE SHELTER about bothies that follows her journeys to these remote spots. It explores why we crave wild places away from the modern world but also how we create communities that can live together sustainably, as we confront contemporary environmental challenges.
