Richard Jenkyns studied at Oxford, first at Balliol College as an undergraduate, then as a Fellow of All Souls. He is now a tutor in Classics at Lady Magaret Hall College, and became Professor of the Classical Tradition in 1999 and the University’s Public Orator in 2004. Although Classics is his speciality, he has written on various other subjects. A contributor to Prospect Magazine, his articles have covered issues ranging from Harry Potter to dictionaries and Freud. His most recent books are equally diverse, the one about Westminster Abbey, the other on the works of Jane Austen. He has spoken about the latter both on BBC Radio 4 and at the Jane Austen Society Annual General Meeting.
