BLOOD & SUGAR by Laura Shepherd-Robinson (Mantle) and TOMBLAND by C. J. Sansom (Mantle) have been longlisted for the HWA Crown Awards 2019.
The Historical Writers’ Association, whose membership is made up of ‘authors, publishers and agents of historical writing, both fiction and non-fiction’, run the annual awards. Three panels of judges are assigned to each award: the HWA Gold Crown; the HWA Non-Fiction Crown; and the HWA Debut Crown.
Laura Shepherd-Robinson’s BLOOD & SUGAR – ‘a compulsive read’ – is longlisted for the HWA Debut Crown for the best debut historical novel. Alongside Shepherd-Robinson’s novel, CJ Sansom’s ‘much-anticipated and weighty addition to the terrific Shardlake series’ is longlisted for the HWA Gold Crown for the best historical novel.
