Catherine Barter
Catherine grew up in Stratford-upon-Avon, and then lived in Norwich for ten years, where she worked in a library, a bookshop, and for an organisation campaigning for the rights of garment workers. She also taught American literature and wrote a PhD thesis about the author Sherman Alexie—a real page-turner which, she has on good authority, has been checked out of the university library at least twice. Currently she lives in East London and co-manages a radical independent bookshop in King’s Cross.

Her first young adult novel, TROUBLEMAKERS, which was shortlisted for the 2014 Bath Novel Award, was published by Andersen Press in the summer of 2017. It was shortlisted for the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize 2018.

Her second novel, WE PLAYED WITH FIRE, was published by Andersen Press in Spring 2021.
