Originally from Cornwall and based in London, Ella Frears works at the intersection of poetry and visual art. Her collection SHINE, DARLING was shortlisted for both the Forward Prize for Best First Collection, and the T. S. Eliot Prize for Poetry, and her collaborative installation The Six Pillars of Modernism was on show at Tate St Ives.

Ella has been selected for a number of residencies including with the Dartington Trust, Knole House in Kent (National Trust), Royal Holloway University’s physics department writing about the Cassini Spacecraft, and John Hansard Gallery in Southampton for which she wrote her experimental publication I AM THE MOTHER CAT, (Rough Trade Books). In 2023 she was the Creative Fellow for the environmental history department at Exeter University.

Ella hosts and co-hosts shows for Soho Radio and is currently the Royal Literary Fund Fellow at the Courtauld Institute of Art.

Ella's first novel, GOODLORD, was published in hardback by Rough Trade Books (2024) and will be published in paperback by Corsair in 2025. GOODLORD was shortlisted for the Forward Prize and was selected as a Sky Arts Awards Breakthrough Artist nominee.
