John Sutherland

John Sutherland is a retired police officer. He joined the Met in 1992, and has worked in seven London boroughs in a range of ranks and roles, including as Borough Commander. He lives in London with his wife and three young children. His award-winning blog on policing can be found here: www.policecommander.wordpress.com

His book, BLUE: A MEMOIR – KEEPING THE PEACE AND FALLING TO PIECES, is an account of more than two decades on the front line and a very personal account of the highs that a life in uniform can bring as well as the lows which can cause even the most hardened of officers to break. It was published by Weidenfeld & Nicholson (Orion) in May 2017, and became an instant Sunday Times bestseller.

His second book, CROSSING THE LINE: LESSONS FROM A LIFE ON DUTY, was published by W&N in May 2020.

His debut novel, THE SIEGE, based on his experiences as a hostage negotiator, was published by Orion Fiction in Summer 2022.

John's latest novel, THE FALLEN, was published by Orion in June 2023.
