Born in 1949, Richard Jenkyns is a Professor of the Classical Tradition at the University of Oxford and served as a visiting professor at Boston University in 2002-2003. His many articles on classical and 19th-century subjects have appeared in The New York Review of Books, The New Republic, The New Yorker, TLS, and The London Review of Books. His books include THE VICTORIANS AND ANCIENT GREECE, THREE CLASSICAL POETS: Sappho, Catullus and Juvenal, DIGNITY AND DECADENCE: Victorian Art and the Classical Inheritance, CLASSICAL EPIC: Homer and Virgil, THE LEGACY OF ROME: A New Appraisal (ed), VIRGIL'S EXPERIENCE: Nature and History and TIMES, NAMES AND PLACES.
