Carol Ballantine

Carol Ballantine is a feminist sociologist, writer and researcher from Dublin. She received her PhD from the University of Galway in 2020, and since then has lectured on gender, violence, and identities in the University of Galway, University College Dublin, and the National College of Art and Design.

Most recently, Carol's academic research has dealt with social polarisation related to gender and sexuality. She focuses on countries where recent social and legal changes favour expanding equalities for women and LGBTQI+ people.

Carol's personal essays and creative non-fiction are published in The Stinging Fly, Banshee, and Headstuff. Her criticism has been published in The Irish Times and The Stinging Fly. Her first book, LITTLE OASES, is the story of what her identical twins taught her about gender and sex. It draws on her personal experience and academic expertise to illuminate gender identities in twenty-first century childhood for general readers.
