Gareth Gavin was born in Birmingham in 1984. His second novel, NEVER WAS: A NOVEL WITHOUT A WORLD, was published by Cipher Press in 2023 and was shortlisted for the Goldsmiths Prize. His first novel, MIDLAND (Penned in the Margins, 2014), was shortlisted for the Gordon Burn Prize. His work often moves between the creative and the critical, and he also writes short fiction: a story called ‘Home Death’ was longlisted for the Galley Beggar Press Short Fiction Prize. He works in the Centre for New Writing at the University of Manchester, where he also teaches a course on Trans Theory.
