Reviews
An eerie alpine atmospheric suspense novel about four friends on a wilderness trip that goes terribly wrong. Prepare for the cliff-hangers and nail-biting!
Fragile female friendships, a beautiful yet hostile environment and dark local intrigue lead, step by step, to tragedy. THE HIKE simmers with tension throughout. A gripping read!
I loved being out on the trail with Lucy Clarke. With beautifully dramatic landscape, dangerous adventure, and captivating characters you really care about, THE HIKE is a wild and deeply satisfying ride. A thriller with soul!
An immense achievement; the sense of place is masterful. The power, beauty and fear inspired by those Norwegian mountains feels utterly real, as do the emotions and physical demands they impose on the girls…The characters are meticulously built, each arc well sustained and the way they relate to each other felt utterly authentic. The tension runs like a tight thread throughout the narrative; but though we never forget the threats that surround the group, getting closer all the time, we are allowed moments of wonder. The end was perfect.
Lucy Clarke's great skill is to add real emotional heft to her twisty, atmospheric thrillers. THE HIKE is as much about the complicated friendship between four 30-something women as it is about surviving the Norwegian wilderness with a murderer on their trail. A brilliant escapist read.
A breathtaking thriller of friendship pushed to the absolute limit – and beyond – amid the dangerous beauty of the Norwegian wilderness.
Lucy Clarke brilliantly transports readers. The chilling environment and the tense, unpredictable plot both sent shivers down my spine.
A tear-those-pages thriller which is also a great meditation on female friendship . . . I’d travel anywhere in the world with Lucy Clarke.
The Hike is a triumph, an immersive sense of place with a thread of tension taut enough to snap. I loved it.
Lucy is so clever. It keeps you absolutely turning the pages to see if they get out alive, but most of all it’s about friendship and motherhood and family, all the things that make getting out alive so important and resonant.
A surprising, twisty thriller with compelling characters who are fierce but out of their depth, that keeps you guessing until the end. Lucy Clarke has done it again!
A page-turning, twisty and beautifully written thriller that had me on the edge of my seat as four friends navigate a mountainous Norwegian trail. This tense and atmospheric story perfectly captures the friendships of the four women as they battle the elements as well as their internal demons. Lucy Clarke really is the queen of the destination thriller and The Hike is her best yet!
The perfect ingredients for a Witherspoons film like Wild.
So tense, so atmospheric, so good!
