Laura was born in 1982 in south London, where she now lives with her husband. She studied Spanish and Italian at Cambridge University, and newspaper journalism at City University, London.

Laura is the author of THE VERSIONS OF US (Weidenfeld & Nicolson/ UK; Houghton Mifflin Harcourt/ US May 2016). Translation rights have been sold in Brazil, Czech Republic, Denmark, Sweden, Hungary, Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Norway, Poland, Russia, Serbia & Montenegro, Turkey, Croatia, Spain, Portugal, China, Korea and Taiwan. TV rights have been optioned by Trademark Films.

THE VERSIONS OF US spent six weeks in The Sunday Times hardcover bestseller list; and went straight to number 1 in The Sunday Times paperback fiction bestseller list, going on to spend six weeks in the Top Ten. It was nominated for the 2016 BBIA Award for Debut Fiction. The novel was also selected for the Richard and Judy and WHSmith Bookclubs for January 2016, and the US edition is a Barnes & Noble discover pick for Summer 2016. GREATEST HITS was published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson in June 2017.

As a freelance arts journalist, features writer and theatre critic, Laura has worked for The Guardian, The Observer, The Daily Telegraph and Time Out London, as well as many other national newspapers and magazines. Her first non-fiction book, ADVICE FROM THE PLAYERS – a compendium of advice for actors – was published in September 2014 by Nick Hern Books.

Her latest book, THIS BEATING HEART (Weidenfeld & Nicholson) was published in 2022.
