Maria Hummer was born in Toledo, Ohio. She has lived and worked around the world in Seoul, St. Louis, Budapest, and Bratislava. She holds a BFA in Creative Writing, and in 2010 she moved to London to pursue an MA in Screenwriting at The London Film School.
She is the writer behind prize-winning short films 'He Took His Skin Off For Me' (based on her short story of the same name) and 'Dinner and a Movie.' Her most recent short film, adapted from her story ‘The Director,’ had its UK premier at the 2018 Encounters Film Festival.
Maria's fiction has appeared in The White Review, Wasafiri, Devil's Lake, and more. She is a 2014 alumna of the Writers Centre Norwich Inspires scheme. In 2018, her debut novel-in-progress was longlisted for the TLC Pen Factor Competition.
